Standard work is a lean concept that applies to everyone. Everyone within the organization has its own brand of standard work that they need to perform as an integral component of the job that they do. This is no different for the “leader.”
Leader Standard Work consists of a variety of tasks and activities performed by the leaders at all levels the organization that helps those leaders to stay focused on the activities that drive performance, maintain standards, and keep their processes in control.
There are three basic characteristics of Leader Standard Work – Rigor, Transparency and Accountability, and Engagement and Coaching.
The application of Leader Standard Work often requires leaders to go to the work area and make direct observations specific to process adherence and process performance providing significant opportunities for investigation and coaching.
Audit points specify where and when in the value stream the leader must have a physical presence, what must be checked and the normal condition that must be verified with the aid of effective visual controls.
Lean leadership is about applying these concepts effectively.
